Friday August 13, 2010 Competition and Outdoor Movie Come out and kick off the Sunflower Festival by participating or observing the first ever Town Crier Competition. The competition is open to different age categories you can register and pick up a script at 6:30pm at the Sundridge Community Centre and the competition starts at 7:30pm. Each age category will be judged and prizes will be awarded to first and second place winners in each category. The Town Crier Competition is sponsored by Enzo's Pizzariea and Sub Bar. After the competition, starting at dusk, enjoy a free outdoor movie at the Sundridge Community Centre. The family classic "E.T" The Extra Terrestrial will light up the sky at dusk. Bring your lawn chair, some munchies and maybe a blanket to curl up with and enjoy the show. In the case of rain, the movie will be held on the ice surface of the Arena. Saturday August 14, 2010 The busiest day of the Sundridge Sunflower Festival is today. Visit with our Sunflower Hostesses dressed in Sunflower Costumes and receive information and fill out our questionnaires. Listen for our town crier as he gives directions to our many events and information on what is taking place throughout the day. In the case of bad weather, the events will take place at the SSJ arena except for the canoe races and cardboard boat races. South River/Sundridge Airport joins the Sunflower Festival this year by scheduling COPA for Kids. Children ages 7-17 get to ride in a plane and view the Sundridge and South River area from above. There is no charge for this experience but it is based on a first come, first serve basis so get there early as there is a limited time for participants to register. The Main Street Market has exploded this year with over 60 vendors participating in the event. The Market is open from 10:00am to 4:00pm and takes place on main street which is closed to traffic. At the market you will be sure to find something for everyone. Come and take a stroll and enjoy browsing and shopping our market. The Seniors group has been busy this year producing various art pieces some of which they will have on display and other for sale. Burk’s Falls Arts and Crafts Club will be hosting an Art Show at the Sundridge Lions Building from 10:00-4:00. Admission is free so come and browse and enjoy our local artists. The Sundridge Harmony Guild will be hosting a tea at the Sundridge Community Centre from 11:00-3:00. The cost is for the tea and all that goes with it is $3.00. These ladies work diligently for our community so let’s get out and support them. Helicopters Canada will be at the Strong Agricultural Society Fair Grounds offering sight seeing tours of the local area. At the Waterfront Cardboard boat races will start at 12:00pm and the Canoe races will begin with the first heats taking place at 1:00 p.m. To join this fun two person team challenge contact Kathy at 384-7207 for further information and to enter your team. Down at the waterfront from 10:00am-3:00pm get the kids involved in the variety of crafts and games for all ages. While at the waterfront you can relax and enjoy a burger, hotdog or sausage cooked up by the Sundridge Lions club. Have that with Patti’s fries and a cold drink. Main Street Stage Back up on Main Street, located in Near North Realty’s Parking lot and the grass of the Rodger’s building will be The Main Street Stage Entertainment starts at 10:00am. Some of the performers who will be featured on our Main Street Stage will be: Merv and Friends, Doug and Ada Maeck, Pam & Art Botham, Fern Glen Fiddleheads, Jenny and friends. Starting at 5:00pm you can enjoy a light dinner being offered for sale at the Legion Branch 397. At 7:00 Main street will once again be shut down for a Street Dance featuring the Gibbings Family Band. Bring you lawn chair and your dancing shoes and enjoy the evening as the Gibbings Family Band entertains you until 10:00pm. Through traffic will be detoured around, the two downtown blocks of Yonge to James and James to Paget, and Main Street will be barricaded off for the majority of the day. Sunday, August 15, 2010 RBC Sundridge Triathlon will be taking place in the Village of Sundridge and Township of Strong. The first race begins at 8:30 with the sprint triathlon. What an exciting event to participate in or even just to be a spectator.
